Mike Allott: Saints team v Burnley

Regular columnist and shrinking violet Mike Allott shares his team selection for Sunday’s visit of Burnley. Agree? Disagree? Mike encourages you to leave your comments below. And don’t worry—his broad shoulders can take any criticism…

As all Saints fans do I’m sitting here thinking what team Mark Hughes will select to start on Sunday.

Like all fans I have my opinion, yes I may be a little controversial at times and yes you may not agree with me, but then again I don’t have to agree with you. That’s what makes it fun. One thing we will always agree on, is that supporting Saints isn’t always fun but it’s great.
So having heard this morning that Cedric is back in the fold also reading between the lines of Sparky’s interview with the local paper, it would seem if little Portuguese is fit he’ll play.
Bearing this in mind I will now select my Saints starting 11 for Sunday’s opener against the Lancashire Hotpots of Burnley.
In goal I’m going for Angus Gunn to make his Premeir League debut. My rationale is there have a been a couple of errors from Alex McCarthy in the friendlies that I just didn’t like: getting beat at his near post vs Celta and the second goal against Borussia did it for me, plus I think Gunn’s distribution is a little better.
My three centre backs would be Hoedt, Vestergaard, Yoshi.
The wing backs are Cedric and Bertrand & the midfield will consist of PEH, Lemina, with Romeu playing the holding role.
In the number 10 spot I’d have Armstrong, he looked very lively against Celta so he’s in.
Up front on his own I would go for Austin, give him a hour against his former club.
I would leave Gabbi on the bench, alondside Elyounoussi, Bednarek, Stephens, JWP, McCarthy & Redmond. I reckon there’s enough there to beat a Burnley team who would have travelled to Turkey and back come Sunday.
You can agree or you can disagree, this my team selection and I own it. 😇😂😇
Feel free to leave your comments below… Oh yeah, I have broad shoulders I can take it.
