Saints Foundation’s newest ambassadors join Senior Saints as they return to sessions in Southampton
The charity celebrated the induction of James Beattie and Marieanne Spacey-Cale as its newest ambassadors by inviting them to a stroll with the Senior Saints at Riverside Park.
After years of supporting the charity, Beattie and Spacey-Cale have become official charity ambassadors to help push the message of Saints Foundation’s work to more people across Southampton and beyond.
The pair have already got out into the community – in recent weeks, they joined a group of older people for a walking session at Riverside Park. The celebration was two-fold as the walking session marked one of the very first opportunities for Senior Saints participants to exercise and socialise together in person in 2021.
You can watch a video of this heart-warming outing on Saints Foundation’s social media channels from Tuesday 1 June.
Marieanne Spacey-Cale commented: “I’m absolutely honoured to be asked to be an ambassador for Saints Foundation. For me, the work the Foundation does is all about being a good person and helping others.”
James Beattie added: “I’m really excited to become an ambassador. The Foundation has done good work for a number of years … they’ve become a shining light and a way forward, an example to other people and other clubs and organisations about how you can make that community tie really strong.”
Greg Baker, Head of Saints Foundation, was thrilled to welcome the pair onboard. “We are delighted to welcome James and Marieanne as our newest ambassadors. They have both been incredibly supportive of our work in recent years, helping out whenever they can, and I am excited to see what else they can offer going forward.”
Marieanne Spacey-Cale MBE is currently Head of Girls and Women’s Football at Southampton FC, and Head Coach of Saints’ Women’s Team. During her career as an international footballer, Spacey-Cale played for England 91 times and is considered one of our country’s greatest footballers of all time.
James Beattie enjoyed a prolific career as a professional footballer, notably whilst playing for Saints between 1998 and 2005. He made more than 200 appearances and is one of the club’s top goal scorers of all time. He has gone on to work as a coach and assistant manager at several professional clubs.
They join a number of current Southampton FC players, Saints legends and other long-term supporters of the club and charity to make the Foundation’s ambassador line-up. This includes Southampton’s top goal scorer of all time Matt Le Tissier, Olympian sprinter Iwan Thomas, and Saints first team captain James Ward-Prowse.
Saints Foundation is the charity of Southampton Football Club. They are the club’s way of giving back.
By using the power and the passion of the club, they transform lives in and around Southampton, helping people to fulfil their potential to be more involved, healthier and empowered members of the community.
Saints Foundation works with more than 19,000 people each year across all age ranges from as young as three to their oldest participant, who is 103.
