Saints Women’s FC Lee Callender talks about his (Oh so many) roles with the team. We at SaintsWorld.co.uk are delighted to be the official blog partner of the team…
So a bit about how I joined the club, I was previously coaching for Laverstock and Ford FC in the Wessex League and for Chelsea FC at their Football Development Centre and I was looking for a new role as a GK to get more coaching hours under my belt and saw that SWFC were looking for a new GK coach.
I got in touch with Fran Alonso, went down to training and delivered a couple of sessions and from their joined as First Team GK Coach.
About halfway through my first season at the club the Assistant Manager stepped down, so I had a conversation with Simon Parker, First Team Manager, and we agreed that I would then become the new Assistant Manager/GK Coach. At the end of my first season we achieved a league and cup double and with that gained promotion to the FAWPL (FA Women’s Premier League), which is now re-branded as the FAWNL (FA Women’s National League)
Last season I continued as Assistant Manager until Christmas when our Reserve Team Manager had to step down due to personal reasons, so I took over as Reserve Team Manager, alongside my Assistant manager role and still dabbling with GK coaching.
Moving onto this season, I’m fully fledged reserve Team Manager as we move into our First season in the FAWNL Reserve League, I’ll be working closely with Simon to develop players for the first team, I’ll also be working closely with Angus Scully who is our newly Formed Development Team Manager.
To add the cherry on top of the cake I’ve also somehow ended up as club chairman as well!
It’s been a bit of a ride so far.
