The Weston McKennie hokey cokey continues, last week Bild in Germany reported that Saints had made a €22m offer for the American, no further news on whether this has been accepted or not. However, Aston Villa & Newcastle have also joined the race according to reports in the English press.
According to reports in Italy, Saints have made a bid for a striker. CalcioMercato suggested Saints had made a €12m offer for Almeria striker Dariwn Nunez alongside Wolfsburg who submitted an offer of the same value. Since then, Wolfsburg have upped their offer to €20m subsequently activating the players release clause.
Under 24 hours before reports about Darwin Nunez surfaced, The Sun had linked Michael Obafemi to Aston Villa in a potential £10m move with West Brom also interested.
There were also tentative links to other strikers like Danny Welbeck who was linked to Saints in a £5.5m deal according to The Sun & Chris Wood who was linked to Saints and Newcastle in the Mirror.
Local reports from Spain (El Desmarque) suggested that Saints are still in the market for another right-back, the same reports suggested an interest in Celta Vigo’s Hugo Mallo.
Links to Celtic’s Olivier Ntcham also continued last week with 90mins suggesting that Saints have revisited their interest in a deal.
Saints have also been linked to a trio of Sampdoria players in the last few days. Il Secolo Newspaper reported that we’re among a host of Premier League clubs interested in England U21 midfielder Ronaldo Vieira, the same outlet also suggests that Southampton have been offered the chance to sign right-back Bartosz Bereszynski. And then you have TuttoMercato who are reporting that we’ve submitted a £16m offer for centre-back Omar Colley.
It’s relatively quiet in terms of departures. Hoedt continues to be linked to clubs in Belgium & Holland but no concrete information as of yet. Mario Lemina is heavily linked with a move to return to Galatasaray along with reported interest from Besiktas & Werder Bremen. Talk from England suggested Saints are only interested in a permanent switch with the midfielder valued at £9m. However, most recent reports from Turkey suggest Lemina has sealed a loan move to Besiktas and it will be announced on Tuesday, one to keep an eye on there.
A report in the Athletic mentioned that Harrison Reed would get a chance to impress Hasenhuttl in preseason before a decision is made about his future but it has been made clear that it is entirely down to Reed whether he stays at St Mary’s or departs to Fulham in an £8m move. The article also mentioned that the club has new contracts lined up for Ryan Bertrand and Jack Stephens after securing a 5-year-deal with Ward-Prowse.
